Hochuen Portable Microfluidic Award
The MicroTAS 2017 Conference is pleased to announce the Portable Microfluidic Award, sponsored by Hochuen, to recognize the rapid progress and innovation in portable devices. It is envisioned that portable µTAS platforms would make a significant impact in a variety of applications where fieldable and standalone devices will enable ubiquitous detection, analysis, and processing of small amounts of fluids. This levels the field of medical care for patients in low resources setting or simply in rural areas that don't have access to advanced healthcare infrastructure. In addition, the availability of portable µTAS allows access to hazardous and dangerous environments and allows for large-area distributed sensing nodal networks.

The basic requirement for the submission should describe a portable device that is smaller than 50 inch3 or 820 cc. The portable device should not require tethered external power supply (solar or other power harvesting ok). However, it is permissible to use a smart phone or wireless device for programming and controlling the portable device. The top 10 portable devices will be showcased at the conference as all will be honorable mention in addition to the 3 prize winners.

To be eligible for the Hochuen Portable Microfluidic Award, attendees may have either an oral or poster presentation, and the portable device must appear in their presentation. The application process will consist of submitting a short paragraph describing the device. A panel of international scientists in the field of µTAS will select the winners. The judgment criteria would include 1. Innovation, 2. Functionality, 3. Ease of Use, 4. Application enabling.
